reversed the battery cables and something started smoking!!!klaymonster 07-21-2005, 09:00 PM hey anyone know what might have burned up on a '84 chevy blazer if the battery cables were reversed? wolfox 07-21-2005, 09:12 PM Computer, Alternator regulator, wire harness, various other body modules. You have a project truck now. :) scholzee 07-22-2005, 07:14 AM May not be too bad, not sure on 84 but most newer modules have reverse polarity protection. I do not think the starter is sensitive to polarity. 1) Where did the smoke come from ? 2) how long were they reversed ? 3) Did you turn the key when reversed ? try to start it ? 4) What happens now with the cables on the correct way ? Rick1488 07-22-2005, 10:04 AM I had a 92 Blazer which a friend did the very same thing to it before I caught the error the alternator fried. The cables were switched for about 10seconds... GoodLuck! blazee 07-22-2005, 12:18 PM If you are lucky, you might have just toasted the alternator and any fusible links between it and the battery. dmbrisket 51 07-22-2005, 01:01 PM check alt. and ecm, if your not lucky, well, then it depends on how much $$ the truck is worth to you vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
