reversed the battery cables and something started smoking!!!

hey anyone know what might have burned up on a '84 chevy blazer if the battery cables were reversed?

Computer, Alternator regulator, wire harness, various other body modules. You have a project truck now. :)

May not be too bad, not sure on 84 but most newer modules have reverse polarity protection. I do not think the starter is sensitive to polarity.


1) Where did the smoke come from ?

2) how long were they reversed ?

3) Did you turn the key when reversed ? try to start it ?

4) What happens now with the cables on the correct way ?

I had a 92 Blazer which a friend did the very same thing to it before I caught the error the alternator fried. The cables were switched for about 10seconds...

If you are lucky, you might have just toasted the alternator and any fusible links between it and the battery.

check alt. and ecm, if your not lucky, well, then it depends on how much $$ the truck is worth to you
