Odometer tampering is a federal crime, it's considered fraud if you lie about the mileage to a future buyer...If you tamper with the mileage but disclose the true mileage to the buyer the car is worth less due to the title having to be listed as not actual miles. Don't bother doing it, because your just asking for trouble...The computer in the cars nowadays keeps it's own separate odometer reading that can be read with a scantool and even if you could stop that, the computer will log inconsistencies that a mechanic can see as odometer tampering. Best advice drive less or stop thinking of ways to rip people off.

lol, sounds like you have been ripped off a few times. I have done this to all of my 14 vehicles. I know there is a wire you can splice into to stop it. anyone have an idea?

Talana
07-21-2005, 03:56 PM
i know thats why i didn't know why he was really asking someone how to do that that was dumb

Talana
07-21-2005, 04:10 PM
no i haven't been ripped off that was just dumb to ask about a speedometer thats totally illegal

adamam
07-21-2005, 04:35 PM
I dont care if its illegal. Have you ever littered, or gone over the speed limit? they are illegal too.

catback23
07-21-2005, 04:45 PM
I dont care if its illegal. Have you ever littered, or gone over the speed limit? they are illegal too.

I don't care what you do and sorry to say I've never bought a car from you so I've never fallen victim but you may cut your wire but the computer tells the truth...You don't care if it's illegal but maybe you should care if you put yourself in a position to get caught (ie telling people that you committed odometer tampering and fraud)...Either way this forum isn't a place to discuss how to do illegal things. Where do you get the assumption that everyone litters or drives over the speed limit? It is entirely possible to not litter and/or speed, you say it like you and everyone else is forced into it. Want your how to, stop driving your car that'll stop the odometer guaranteed while your at it grow up. Stupid childish ways of being petty with the mileage you put on your car.

I agree. If you are that concerned about putting miles on your car buy a second or third car and rotate through them, that should keep the mileage down and keep you out of federal jail...

That wrong to lie to people about something so stupid like the mileage on a car maybe someone who has bought a car from him might read this and he will be sorry. Damn rip off people i cant stand them.

phaderus
07-22-2005, 12:12 PM
when I replaced my instument panel the new one 30,000 less on it. It could work the other way too and have more miles. How would you know if someone pulled this trick on you?

adamam
07-22-2005, 01:05 PM
I buy brand new cars only.

Knifeblade
07-22-2005, 01:09 PM
phad, there is a way to scan the ECM for last recorded mileage before the input was interrupted, that gives a benchmarker.

ADDITIONALLY, a car, using your query of 30K - miles, would show in wear/tear. Body, brakes, interior, tires are some indicators [though they not the true red-flag]

gmack221
07-22-2005, 03:29 PM
You don't know, thats why its illegal & you have to look at more then just the odometer when going to buy a car. Check out the tire condition, a car with 35,000 should still have 1/2 of the tread left on the orig tires, before you go to look at it find out what tires came on it. Check out the pedals, 50,000 miles doesn't wear the brake pedal to the metal. Check out the seat, holes, seat covers, you know what sitting in a new car feels like, does it feel like new or a broken down old couch, most people only sit in their car to drive.

By the way, if you've done this all 14 cars you've owned I hope you sell your next one to Highway patrol man!

The vehicle is supposed to be tagged near the information plate found on either the driver's side front door or the door pillar, and its supposed to be tagged by the dealership.

Guys, I dont believe this thread has gone on this long. adamam, all I can say is that if you get caught you could be looking at some serious jail time. Now-a-days people don't take kindly to being ripped off. You could also be looking to meet up with a pissed off buyer which could be worse than doing time. I know that it used to be common practice to disconnect the speedo, but not any more. Like it has been stated " The Computer Knows". There is a case going on in our local area, a small used car lot got busted for selling a car with a spanked speedo, he's only getting fined because he was able to prove that he didn't do it but the guy that did the turn back is getting 7 years. Is it worth that much time just to cheat a few miles on a car. Be sensible buy a beater and run it to the ground and save the GA for going out.

Besides this really isn't a place to be asking for that kind of help. Unless your bio info is B.S. you never know who is browsing the forum. That also goes for anyone that offers instruction on how to disconnect.

Just giving my two cents worth, take it or leave it but I hope you decide to take all of the good advice offered thus far.

what do you think carfax does when you purchase your car it stats your name and your car your mileage everything and each time you insure your car so you buy the car at 100k miles then sell the car at 120k miles in 4 years... you will be investigated... but be forwarned also there is an odometer in the computer of the car.. changing the dash or anything of that sort... is monitored.. all any normal mechanic has to do is read your computer... and ding your busted... this started in all GMvehicles in the late 90's just think in 03 they added a black box to all GM's so when you crash they can read exactly what you were doing for the last 5 seconds before the crash...

And you dont think those people at GM havent thought about people like yourselves... i would warn ya now or a real nasty fine is comming your way

Absofrigginlutely amazing!!! :shakehead

Come on a public forum and ask how to commit a felony. The type of felony that eventually effects people who use this forum on a daily basis. The type of felony that causes folks who use this forum to get screwed by lamers like you.

Maybe you should find a forum and ask: "How do I steal my neighbors newspaper without getting caught?". or "How do I steal someone's identity without getting caught"? or even better: "How can I cheat on my taxes without getting caught?".

This thread is entertaining and pathetic at the same time.

Adam stated he's done this with all of his previous 14 vehicles. I don't know why he would need to ask how for the 15th vehicle. By now he should be considered a professional felon.

:nono: Um ok. You are comparing traffic violation and a fine (hell misdemeanor at the most) to a felony. God you have to be one of the dumbest people that have ever encountered on this forum. Not to mention that when you go to sell that to someone you are committing fraud. I hope that it comes back one day to bite you in the ass hard. And when i does just remember. Don't drop the soap big homie!!!!!!

Here is something else that i find interesting Tam. He asked this question about a week ago.

My odometer has suddenly gone out. then came back on and the 1000 kms or so i drove were never recorded. what happend?

I guess that answer to that question would be that he screwed somethng up when he was messing where he wasn't supposed to.

I just can't wait for adamam to answer a real question.

Example:

Question : How do you change the spark plugs in my GA?
Answer : First you have to steal a set of spark plugs, Then you have to break into a repair shop and steal the plug socket and ratchet. And while you are there you might as well grab a floor jack. Then ..........and so on!!!

What a joke this has turned into. This will be my last reply, unless someone happens to post something that I can't resist.

I am so glad he's in Canada, Slim to no chance that I'll ever buy one of his used cars.

haha how pathetic, you probably own a crap ass used car lot with 1990 corsicas...if i even test drove or looked at one of your cars and i was 99 percent sure you were trying to fraud someone with them boy would you be done, not only would your ass be bleeding in jail, but how would you like it when someone breaks every window in all of your used cars? guess thats not illegal so it shouldnt piss you off? after all breaking windows is only a misdemeanor not a felony... maybe you could report broken windows and get an intelligent cop that noticed something fishy, but i bet you wouldnt call police or insurance company :-D, when you fuck with people like that someday you will piss off the wrong guy and he will put you in your place...god damn lucky you never sold me a car, people like you are the reason we have carfax and such, although they never completely work

C'mon now.... I don't think anybody is stuipid enough to actually come into a public forum (where some of us are Local, state, or Federal officers) and blatently ask about a cirme such as this. That's a level of stuipidity I'd like to think is still beyond the reach of evan todays youth (I'm gathering that their young from the "old guy" reference).

You just have to disconect the speedometer sensor. Its ussually connected to the rear wheels or to the transmission depending on your car. Check on the net for the location of the speedometer on your model. After you do it your speedometer, odometer and abs will stop working and you will have a couple of warning lights on :iceslolan Everything will come back to normal when you reconect it :smokin:. Dont do it if you are not experinced to drive without abs and if you cant feel the speed :icon16:
