I recently did an oil change on my 2000 pontiac GP SE 3.1 and when I changed the oil filter, it leaked like crazy when I drove it. The new filter that I put on was a Bosch.

I lost all the oil that I just put in and had to put the old filter back on to drive it. When I compared the 2, I noticed the new filter had a gasket that extended a bit beyond the edge of the filter and the old one was flush with the edge. I checked to see if there was another gasket that may have stuck on the pan from the old one but nothing was there.

I also checked to see if the other brands at the store had the same gasket as the Bosch and they all did...

I don't want to continue with the old filter so what can I do????

Thx for any help!

did you lubricate the seal with oil before you installed the filter? Failure to do so will cause the gasket to wrinkle, making it leak. The other mistake you made is buying a bosch filter. Buy a quality filter like AC Delco or Fram.

Problem solved....

After some cross referencing my old filter,(Group7) I found out the salesman at AUTOZONE in Long Beach, Ca. Traffic Circle store, older guy, sold me the wrong filter after I specifically told him what car I have.

I Xreferenced on the net and found the Fram that was for my car and Voila! NO MORE LEAK!!!

Money lost: $18.50

glad to hear you fixed it, and it all goes back to retail "box stores" hiring know nothings to help their customers because they don't want to pay for experienced help. After all, the computer has all the right answers, who needs experience, LOL
