Ignition keeps engaging after engine started..

We bought a 2004 Grand Am with 20,000 KM on it a month ago, and I finally got to drive it this week.
I noticed that when I turn the key to start it, even when I let go, the starter is still engaging for a second or so. It isn't grinding or making any weird noise, just keeps going. My wife says she hasn't noticed this, but the again, she doesn't notice when the car is low on gas, or when the windshield fluid is MT, or when the brakes are grinding either.
Is this normal for these vehicles?

Thanks

2004 GrandAm
3.4 l engine.

>>>>It sounds like your starter solenoid is hoooking up and won't release until too late. And no, it's not normal.

>>>>I have the same car-2004 Grandam SE1 3.4lt 26,500km-with the same ignition problem--mine only does it when it is warm--after it sits for awhile, it will start normally---my dealer said the ignition run on thing is normal---they will not investigate the complaint any further---let me know if your dealer does anything about this strange "normal" behavior. Othe rthan that---i love my new GrandAm.....Vrooommmm

there is a recall on the starter for doing what you are saying so you should call a dealer. they said it can lead to a fire . >>>>>>>if you e-mail me at {{{{Crazydave1959@aol.com}}}} i can send a site to find out about any recalls on yours.
