Vibration while driving

Hi. I have a 2001 Grand Am GT1 with 57,000 miles. It has a vibration in the steering wheel/column while driving on the highway [60+ mph] which is increased dramatically with any sort of braking as the whole car shakes, especially the steering wheel. In an attempt to resolve the problem, I have had the tires rotated and balanced four times, new brake pads and rotors turned. The dealer is baffled. The vibration is horribly annoying and can be felt in the floorboards. Intermittently there will also be a humming type sound from the front end. The vibration does vary with the type of roadway upon which the vehicle is traveling.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be so appreciated!

Tell the dealer to try changing the car and see if that fixes the problem :-D

Sounds like it may be a wheel bearing even though 57,000 seems pretty early for it. I had a wheel bearing that went undiagnosed until I pulled the wheel and caliper off and checked by grabbing the rotor, which was froze to the hub, and moving it.
