I have a 1991 Suburban 2500 454 with a 4L80-E transmission. In 1995 under a extended recall factory warranty, the original 4L80-E failed at 60K miles three days before the warranty expired. The dealer replaced the original transmission with a new "Updated" 4L80-E, brand new!
Now the updated 1995 4L80-E has 65K miles on it and it is failing.
I'm losing Overdrive. I was told by a old family friend I can run the truck in "Drive" or third gear until I can make arrangement to have it repaired.
My problem is the suburban is the only vehicle I have and can't afford to have down now and don't have the money needed.
I have called four transmission shops in town and they all want to replace the entire transmission with a rebuilt one. When I told them the problem I was having none of the shops wanted to repair it.

Why is it today shops had rather replace than repair. Repair may cost hundreds, replace may cost thousands?
Any thoughts?
