I filled up with gas 2 days ago, tried going to the store the next day, pulled into traffic and the car stopped and would not start. The gauges and lights did weird things (temp gauge went to max and down to min). Had the car pulled home since I was less than .1 mile from house. Checked the voltage on the battery 12.6v, checked fuel pressure 42 psi. Tried starting car, car turns over but will not start. Special note here only 1/2 of the indicator lights are on when turning car on (right side only). Waited 5 hours when it was dark and attempted to start still would not start but was able to see something that I could not in daylight that half of the dashboard illumination was on, without the parking or headlights turned on. Today we tried starting the car and got all the indicator lights to work, the service engine light is rapidly flashing about 2 times per second and still no go. This afternoon we tried swapping relays, cleaning battery terminals (clean) and we got the car to start and run indicators worked like they should. Then my roommate moved some wires below the fan in front of the engine and the car stopped and again 1/2 the indicator lights are on. This particular car has a weird obd1 connection that requires a scanner to pull the code and the local autoparts store had a scanner but the cars it said it was compatable with did not list my car it listed 2 other 94 pontiacs. Any ideas, I cannot afford another 1500 car repair or another car right now.

Forgot to mention that it has a 3.1 V6 engine and 149,000 miles. and we know the timing chain is still working.

there are shops that can scan the car just gotta specify what car you have before you go there...

Had to do that to my 94

Problem appears to be solved. There were 2 ground wires to the frame under the radiator that were severely corroded plus one going to driver side stripped wires replaced connectors. Car started and tested some 20 plus times, driven on rough roads and car did not stall and restarted every time.
