Hello I have a 1998 chevy malibu ls. I have had it for over 2 years now. My transmission doesnt shift like it should and the rpm goes up to 4000 when I get to 55 mph. Does anyone think I need a transmission or is it the torque converter like the code said a while back? Could a torque converter stop the whole problem and if I need a transmission what is the cheapest way to make it easier for me?

I have a 97 with 135,000 miles never had any problems with the tranny if the code said your torque converter. That may be the problem. I would also check the fluid may even have it changed to see if that helps but when you get a new tranny the torque converter sometimes does not come with it. It will be an extra charge unless they state that a new converter will come with it. A tranmisson shop a good honest one can check the problem sometimes a bad sensor like in most chevy's are a problem in most cases. Could check that first as well. but i would not rush on a new tranmisson. A tranmission speed sensor is a lot cheaper but that should have came up with the code. i guess your code pointed at the converter so i would have that checked first. hope that helps.
