It sounds like there is a leak in the hydraulic clutch master cylinder. You will probably have to replace the clutch master cylinder to get the problem to go away.

Either that or your slave cylinder is leaking, and if thats the case plan on changing the clutch. It's incorporated with the throwout bearing, and since you have to remove the transmission anyway, might as well change the clutch.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I crawled under the car this evening after work. After pumping the cluth a few times I saw it was dripping from the bottom of the tranny near the flywheel. Time to bring it in. My wife says sell it, but getting 33-35mpg is too good to get rid of.

Thanks again, Jeff

Cowskis, please let me know how everything goes, I have a 96 GAGT with the 5 speed, I now have 118,000 miles on the original clutch so I know that my days are numbered on the clutch.

I would have to agree with you the fuel economy is too good to drop the car. I have to look into an A/C problem as well as a possible fuel pressure regulator issue but I have no intentions of getting rid of the car.

Good luck,

If you have a place and the knowledge to do the job, I strongly recommend that you do it yourself. I was quoted $800 to $1000 to put the clutch in my 95 gt, instead I did it at a friend's house, it took us 11 hours to get the job done. There are alot of heavy parts to remove, and there are a couple of shortcuts you can take, like removing the strut assembly, control arm and rail all as one unit, rather than take parts off and push the strut out of the way. Also, remember the carrier bearing on the back of the motor, if you don't unbolt the housing, the axle shaft stays in place and it gets tricky for lining up the transmission when you put it back together.

Hoags: on a good note, I got 180k out of the clutch on my car, the only reason it was replaced was due to the slave cylinder leaking, looking at it it should have gone around 20k more highway miles.

My 96 just turned over 240,000 miles on original clutch. Hope it lasts a bit longer, it is starting to get a little old I think.
