Welcome to the forum. I know that the GT come with 3400 (3.4 litre V6) in them. So I know that will fit and you probably won't habe to do any mods to make that fit . I'm not sure if you can go any bigger than that though bigger or not.

I've heard of a supercharged 3800 V6 being put into GAs before. There are some electrical modifications that need to be done though.

yea....the 3800 will fit but sence ur car is 2000 grand am, you will need to get a different transmition. The only GA that comes with a trany that will fit is the 92-95 GA cause they had the 4t60e that would fit it. and also if you do that, you will have to put new (custom by yourself) motor mounts and new wiring harness. im thinkin about puttin a 3800 in mine after college....but that will be a long time from now.

Yeah, I was thinking about doing the same for my '94. My 3100 is blown, and it's been sitting in my garage with half the engine ripped apart since Feb. It saddens me every time I open my garage door. :(

Not exactly sure on the cost, but most of your local junkyards can probably locate an engine if they don't have it. You can get one from there, and rebuild it, or you can purchase one that's already been rebuilt. You can even find decent deals on engines online.

I've heard the engine and tranny costing about $3k give or take $1k or so. It'll also take alot of time to do the necessary mods and hookups (mounts, axles, fuel system, electrical, etc). It's not a bad way to go but if you and your dad only work on it when you have free time you won't be going anywhere in your car anytime soon (once you start working).

That's for just the engine and tranny, other custom parts or upgraded parts will of course add to the cost. Things like custom length axles, engine mounts if you can't fabricate your own, fuel system upgrades (fuel pump and line possibly), crap like that will start to add up. As far as your job, once you take your engine out if you don't have everything ready to go your gonna have to get to work another way for a while. The only way the swap can be done quick (2-4 days) is if you have everything you need when you need it and you know how to drop everything in without wasting time.
