Last preview of Hyde's TMIC before he goes under the knife ...JekylandHyde 07-12-2005, 06:27 PM I am competing in the IDRC event at Maple Grove this weekend and then Hyde will be taken off the street for a few weeks in order to compete his TMIC set up. I recently picked up an RMR Racing intake manifold from an MR2OC member that is all ready prepared for a Q45 90 MM throttle body. I do not have the throttle body yet, but it should be in the mail as we speak :) http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/xxx_q45_tb.jpg With the addition of the RMR & the TB, all that was left is hose connections and clamps. I will be ordering my constant-tension worm drive clamps from McMasters in the next few days: http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/111/gfx/small/5281kp1s.gif I really want to thank TURBOHOSES (http://www.turbohoses.com) for sponsoring this project. Hoover at turbohoses has been awesome to deal with and I can't thank him enough. The hoses look awesome ;) So, here's the last 2 sneak preview pics before surgery: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hydes_new_tmic_1.jpg http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hydes_new_tmic_2.jpg ac427cpe 07-12-2005, 07:19 PM mmmmmmmmmmm looks pretty. how bad do you predict lag will be? JekylandHyde 07-13-2005, 09:37 AM I'm actually hoping the lag will be the same or better :) There is more of the system to pressurize, but: *the piping is significantly straighter *the TB is very fast to respond from what I understand *I launch off a 2-step so I don't have any lag there ;) JekylandHyde 08-01-2005, 10:52 AM Here's a sneak preview "in progress" shot. The Subaru scoop is mounted and looks great, but I do not have a pic of that. My body guy used the same silicone material they use to hold the NASCAR windshields in place so he feels secure it will hold on at speed :D Unfortunately, because of the siez of everything, we are forced to lay the IC down flat. I wanted it standing up, but that just can't happen :( Here's the pic: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress.jpg JekylandHyde 08-05-2005, 09:25 AM Some more "in progess" photos: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress2.jpg http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress3.jpg And the Subaru scoop mounted up: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_trunk_scoop1.jpg http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_trunk_scoop2.jpg ac427cpe 08-05-2005, 09:34 AM sweeeeet! you make me want to work on my mr2. MR2turbo93 08-09-2005, 11:10 PM what do you do for a living....? i need money lol JekylandHyde 08-10-2005, 06:30 AM MR2turbo93, I don't make a lot of money. I have a decent job doing photography & design for a newspaper. I am frugal and thrifty on how I spend. All of the parts for this project cost less than $900. I sold all my previous intercooler and intake manifold set up for $1500. That's how I could afford this project. A lot of what I have done this year would not have been possible without my sponsors. They have helped me out a lot :) JekylandHyde 08-10-2005, 08:55 AM We made a lot of progress last night. I went up to my mechanics place and brought a long a thin sheet of aluminum. I traced the thin shroud that surrounds the GReddy intercooler on the aluminum and cut it out and drilled the appropriaate holes for mounting. While I was doing that, Jeff (my mech) cut out a section of the black rubber lining of the passenger side OEM intake scoop. This will allow air coming into the scoop to flow into the trunk instead of the engine bay. You can see what he cut out here (notice that it naturally flows into the trunk through the quarter panel :) : http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress9.jpg After he was done I installed the piece I made to block the air from getting into the engine bay and forcing it back into the trunk: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress9a.jpg You can see from the outside the direction the air will now go: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress8.jpg We also had out first chance to mount up all of the piping with the new throttlebody and intake manifold: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress10.jpg You might notice that the IC pipe going into the TB comes through the firewall right where the fuse box and coolant neck are. They had to be shortened to accomodate this change: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress11.jpg MR2turbo93 08-10-2005, 05:51 PM thats friggen nut good luck with the rest of it it cant wait to hear about the final results. JekylandHyde 08-13-2005, 09:33 AM This whole process is being documented here: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/hyde_tmic_buildup.htm Updates photos: OEM BPV mounted up: http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress12.jpg Space between taillight is cut out for air flow. This will not be as obvious when the trunk is on and there is black mesh over it ... but hey, it's a progrss pic :) http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress13.jpg ac427cpe 08-13-2005, 02:27 PM man, all you need now is a v6 ;) JekylandHyde 08-13-2005, 06:46 PM ... future project for Jekyl ;) JekylandHyde 08-14-2005, 07:42 AM Scoop fabricated under the car to get fresh air into the IC. It's tapered toward the driver side to accomodate the exhaust and avoid that hot air. http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress15.jpg Water injection reservoir has been moved to the front trunk (frunk). http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/hyde_tmic_progress14.jpg MR2turbo93 08-14-2005, 11:30 PM with the bigger intere cooler are you going to you a CO2 spray on the inter cooler ... i see the cryo2 tank whats that for? JekylandHyde 08-15-2005, 06:28 AM I am not using CO2 at all. If you are refering to the tank in the front trunk, that is not CO2. That is a CraneCams vacuum reserve tank. It storesvacuum for the vac assisted brakes. With my longer duration cams, I do not always make great vac, but when I do it ... I store it in that tank :) MR2turbo93 08-15-2005, 12:01 PM oohhhhh i see HondaChili 08-18-2005, 01:41 AM Nice intercooler mount man.
