I asked that question once to repair the stock unit, doing a serch of the forum should get you those directions. Keep in mind that the DIC is integrated in the radio and a number of things like the door chime & Keyless entry will not work with out the fac radio. I know for an Impala 2000 I drove there was an adapter that would allow you to plug the OEM radio and hide it like in the trunk to keep all those functions operable and allow you to install an after market head unit. Not sure if they make one for the 05 model Malibu.

First Off The Chime Will Still Work And So Will The Keyless Entry.you Do Not Need To Hide It In The Trunk. The 05 Is Gm-lan The Old Databus 2 Runs All That. If You Still Want Your Dic, Metra 99-3303 Has The Spot For The Radio And The Dic Below It. It Is A Nice Setup. You Will Not Lose Any Functions Of Your Car When You Change The Radio. Anyone Who Tells You Different From No One Are Morons And Should Not Post About The Radios. I Have Had An Aftermarket In My Dash Since I Bought The Car. I Have Also Been Doing Proffesional Installation For Ten Years, On A Competition And Sound Quality Level.

I am glad dragon can clear this up, funny the "moron" that I asked the same question about the chimes and the DIC and the keyless also told me he had been in the installation business for over ten years. So in order for me to be a "moron that should not be posting about stereos" do I have to first claim to be in the "competition and quality class" for ten years or so? the bottom line you have to get additional hardware to get all your factory items to work, if not great! The morons that you ask should all know what it takes to get the stuff to work, its not as easy as replacing the old head unit and expect it to be replaced with an aftermarket and everything to work ie DIC, having said that I figure I have about another two or so years dealing with stereos before I can say other wise and be an expert "moron".

WELL IF THIS PERSON WAS SO GREAT HE WOULD KNOW THAT THE OLD GM VEHICLES COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS KNOWN AS DATA BUS 2, THE ONE ON THE NEW MALIBU IS THE GM-LAN. AS FOR THE DIC, METRA'S 99-3303 KIT HAS THE DIC BUILT IN AND YOU HAVE TO DO NOTHING EXTRA TO INSTALL IT. THE ONLY THING IS THERE IS NOT A 12 VOLT SWITCH WIRE AT THE HARNESS, YOU HAVE TO TAP INTO THE VEHICLE ACCESSORY WIRE, IT IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE FUSE BOX, IT IS BROWN WIRE AT THE BCM IN THE GRAY PLUG."MORON"

Ok, I have a 05' Malibu. I want to buy a new deck but I don't want to lose like the fuel range meter or the avg. speed or any of that. So your saying I can keep all those features even if I put in a new deck? There is a little cut out a lil bit under the radio, would you stick the DIC there? Is that what your saying? if so the space isnt very big. It barely holds my wallet.

I just have a question - I am not "stereo installer" intelligent. I had a pioneer stereo installed in my 2005 Malibu Classic, the stereo works fine but I have lost some of the factory features - door chimes, radio staying on 10 minutes as long as the drivers door remains closed after the ignition has been turned off, key chimes, lights on / off chimes, etc. The wiring harness that was used, I have been told, is not the harness that will enable those features, that I will need to purchase a more expensive harness. Any thoughts? I could really use some help here, please - speak on a level that I will understand... (very intimidated by this site)!
