ALright I ordered a set of gauges off of ebay, and surprise no instructions on what to do. The gauges came with a little black box, I don't know what to do with it. I know how to take off the cluster, but I need to know where to hook it up and to what wires, and what I need to do. Oh yeah it also came with an on/off switch, what do I do with that?

alright... i assme that everything is connected to itself (in the kit you got) already, except for 2 wire ends. One being the current, and the other ground.

I dont know if this is the "correct" way to do it... but it's how i did it to my old car when i got a kit off ebay. What you do, is you look for a bulb in the cluster that lights up once you turn on the headlights. The follow the wire and then cut into it... DONT CUT IT. Cut into it just so you can see the wire but its still connected. Then, connect the + side of the gauge kit into that, and tape it up. Then, connect the other loose wire from your kit to a screw or bare piece of metal on the car so that it can be grounded. Turn on your headlights, and the kit should light up. Then tuck the wires in, and put everything back together once you are sure everything is secure.

If you dont have a bulb that lights up in your dash, you can always find the switch that dimms the gauge cluster lights. You can also try the same thing with those wires, but you might need to play around with it so see which ones would work if you dont hate a test light.

Hope this helps!

I think I might have ordered the same gauges. If anyone wants to buy a set of reverse glo gauges for a 4th gen vtec (92-96) I didn't match them up and it wasn't until the dash was already out, that I realized the Si gauge cluster is SLIGHTLY different than the vtec cluster. I paid $25 for the gauges, if someone wants them PM me with an offer.

PS - Good luck putting them in whatever car ur puttin it in

you should really just find the wire that's next to you parking light switch. just take off your steering column cover (the plastic thing) and start testing the wires. the parking light wire will have a positive current while the parking lights are on and a negative current while they're off. the just like topsecret said, cut into wire, not all the way through, hook up the positive wire and of course hook up the ground wire and off you go. Good Luck.

actually, i just installed the same gauges in my car, and here's how to do it RIGHT. First, take off the dimmer switch, to the left of the steering wheel, then wire the power wire to the power wire in the dimmer switch circuit... I believe on the 98 it's a red with black stripe down it... then just attach the black wire to a steady ground source, and you should be all set. I set that black box (attached with velcro) under the steering column, on top of the plastic protector by the fuse box, and ran the switch from the gauges over by the cig. lighter, so it's all out of the way. That way, they'll come on exactly with your lights.

that's the exact same thing. what do you think gives power to the dmmer switch??? gee, mmm, maybe the parking light wire. anyway, just find a wire that has power when the lights are on. again, good luck.
