I have a 94 transport it's started making a bad noise, after investigating I noticed the ac pump was siezed up and the water pump seemed to be making a rattling noise. We replaced the ac pump and the water pump and the noise is still there. I have noticed about 1 inch of play in the serpentine belt (back and forth). I'm afraid that my crank shaft is about to snap because I don't think that there is supposed to be play there. Any ideas?

First of all you would not be able to determine a crankshaft problem by wiggling the serpentine belt. If anything either the idler pulley or the tensioner on the belt is going bad and needs replaced. Also there is a possibility that the belt is the wrong one for your particular engine.

A few cases of disintegration of the crankshaft pulley that exhibited similar symptoms have been reported on this forum . So this is another possibility.

Take the belt off and examine each pully individually. There shouldn't be any noticable play in any of them with the exception of the tensioner which obviously will move some.

I am having the same problem. I have replaced the belt tensioner and th e the the water pump, bypassed the ac pump had the altenator shop rule out the altenator and still my belt tensioner has a small play in it with a terrible rattle. I always wanted a head turner, but not from my van.... Looking for suggestions also.
