I am reading the Faq's and reading the Buschur upgrade path for my 2g (1997 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD). Just about every thread that I have read says at one point or another to replace a part with a 1G part like the Throttle Body or the BoV.
Why is that? I see the recommendations every where but no real explanation. I would think that 2G parts would be better since they are newer.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the TB, but the reason people like 1g BOV is because it holds bost better than the 2g BOV(don't know why) and its cheaper that those name brand BOVs(e.g. greddy and such)

The 1g BOV are made of metal as opposed to plastic (2g). Some 1g parts are better to use, some 2g parts are better. The 2g throttle body elbow is bigger than 1g, the 2g exhaust manifold is less prone to cracking. The 1g head has bigger ports than the 2g. And of course the famous 6 bolt swap from early 1g. Their is an array of swappable parts depending on what year you have. Also numerous parts you can swap within the 1st gen. These are just at the top of my head, there is many others i haven't covered.

That it is.

I said throttle body elbow, not throttle body itself.

In that case, 2g is better. It has a large ID all the way through, contrary to the 1g's not so well designed piece.

Obviously the parts are not the same... if they were, it would be the case that newer is better. Probably an issue of cost, maybe something else, but some 1g parts are just plan better. I read a thread on here a few days ago that grouped which parts were better between the two generations. As for cheap and easy upgrades... I would say the 1g BOV is about it. Not worth the effort to do a head/intake mani/TB swap when the car is stock.

Just for the sake of listing it all, here is what I know about 1g vs 2g parts.

Each of these is better than the other generation's counterpart.

2g exhaust manifold
2g O2 housing
1G stock turbo
1G intake mani
1g TB (60mm vs 52mm)
2g TB elbow
1g BOV
2g synchros
1g 3-4 gearset
1g cams (very slight difference though)

Hmm. I think thats it.
