my girlfriends car just recently started losing coolant fast. After looking around it a while i found the leak, but couldnt quite see where it was coming from. It seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine, below the hose that connects to the air filter.
anyway i was wondering if anyone could give me some information on what to do about it such as prices, and parts or any kind of quick fix. I'd really appreciate your help. thanks

If it seems to be oozing out between the lower intake manifold and the heads (check the passenger side of the motor too) then run a search on lower intake manifold gasket failure. The short end of it is that it is a serious problem and it costs between 6 and 8 bills to correct.

If it's not coming out of there you're lucky. The thermostat and some other coolant lines are over there as well.

When our Blazer started losing coolant, the warranty repair was to add GM's "cooling system sealer tabs" (actual name) to the radiator. Pretty poor repair in my opinion but that's today's GM it seems. Anyway, the sealer tabs worked and it hasn't leaked for a year or so now. Get at any GM dealer for about five bucks or so.

I wonder if these sealer tabs really work, because I've had to replace my origional engine last year and I ainta gonna poor money into a gasket job on this one, if that day comes again

What are these sealer tabs and do they work on the Malibu 3.1?

Sealer Pucks were originally sold by GM to reduce the amount of head gasket werranty claims on the sunfire and cavalieer 2.2 pushrod motors. (Headgasket oozing coolant on Drivers side front.) They are a band-aid solution. Fix the problem the proper way and replace/repair the culprit parts...
