Transmission Mount

Hi all, I have a 86 B150 Ram van and while replacing the transmission mount I noticed that the new mount allows the trans to sit up higher on the crossmember. There is a gap of about 1 inch between the bottom of the mount and the crossmember. Is the tranny supposed to just "hang" there or is there a spacer of some sort that I'm missing? There is a hole in the bottom of the mount which aligns with a hole in the crossmember. Is there supposed to be something going though there too? Thanks for all your help. Tim

on my 83 b150 the crossmember comes to a "v" shape and in the middle of that i have a mount with a bushing which the tranny sits on, there is no gap at all. I hope this helps a bit i was just out there holding a flashlight underneath to check this out.

Thanks for your reply! I knew some thing had to go in the space there! I put a 3/8 by 1" bolt with a fender washer in the gap for now. I guess I'll call around the local junk yards and see if I can find one, as the guys at the auto parts stores don't have any idea what I was trying to tell them. Thanks again, Tim

I own a 86 ram 250 and just replaced the trans. mount,There is NOT supposed to be ANYTHING in the hole you described If you put a bolt in that hole you need to take it out, Thats defeating the purpose of having the rubber mount. And thats why the parts house didn't know what you wanted because it doesn't exist. A 83 van has a different type mount or he didn't understand what you were describing.

restorob, Well I called around the junk yards and they didn't have anything like a bushing that would go under the mount either. It just seemed funny to me that the tranny would just kind of hang there with a gap under the mount above the crossmember. Thanks, Tim
