Questions Bout The 267CAPRICE LIFE 07-09-2005, 11:20 PM I Just Bought A 82 Caprice With 267 V8 Engine. I Want To Know If This Engine Is Worth Putting Money Into, What Kind Of Power Will I Get, If Its Reliable, What Tranny Came With This Engine, And What Can I Do Myself To Change The Color Of The Cloth Interior? Can I Use Ritz And Spray The Cloth Whatever Color I Want It? I Bought It From The Same Owner Who Purchased It In 82. Its In Excellent Condition Inside And Out. One More Question. How Can I Tell Which Head Gasket Is Cracked? I Would Appreciate If I Can Get All Answers In Full Detail To Minimize Error On My Part. Thankyou 1986Z28 07-09-2005, 11:36 PM as far as i know it is not a bad engine, but isnt very good for power, if you want power just buy a crate engine, somthing like a 350, 350hp and a 700r4 or a turbo 350 would work good in that car, to find the tranny, you can email me a pic of the spid in the trunk and i can tell you what the car has. you can try a compression test to see about the head gasket, but if it had bad compression if would most likely run like crap if it ran at all PeteA216 07-10-2005, 01:09 AM if you wanna keep some sort of fuel economy, and still get some horses, the see if you can get your hands on a 327 randy78 07-16-2005, 05:13 AM i would jsut leave it alone if car is all stock factgory original, leave it as a smooth nice daily driver, trust me,, later on you can save up for a nice 327 or 350 or 400 or whatever and swap out the little 267 before it goes kaboom one day keepp the oil changed real often meanwhile and keep the cooling system in tip top shape including the fan clutch assembly, make sure its not worn out, if so get a ne won asap, the extra heat will help kill any engine, so,.,. i have to do this ot my 88 with LG4 305 soon the fan clutch is worn out doesnt grab at all when its hot, wobble yours and see if it has slop in waterpump pulley mounting hub, check it often or jsut replace it good luck :D vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
