Hey All, Has anyone first hand ordered a "Turbonator" Supercharger and installed it into their Impala? I was just curious if that $70 supercharger is even worth the investment. There were testimonies on the website saying it worked out real well, but you cant always believe the feedback on the product website, which is why I decided to question the forum. I just don't want to buy one and have to re-program my electronics for it to work for two weeks and break on me. You can check out the website @ http://www.turbonator.com

Is this a good supercharger for the Impala?
Is there a different supercharger recomended for the Impala?
-If So, How much does it cost?

Help me out!!

Thanks!!

He hit the nail on the head.

Yes the 3800 is superchargeable, There are factory built 3.8's with the Supercharger. But to make a 'N/A' 3800 Supercharged, generally isn't worth the effort and price to add the ~60 HP to the motor.

I can't find a price at the moment for the stock supercharger, but if you find a price example, a New Supercharged 3800 runs ~$3700-$3800 plus shipping and whatnot.

There are other options for performance to the 3800, if you want to see everything you have to work with, site's like http://www.3800performance.com have plenty of parts for the engine / driveline and suspension on Impala's and the loads of other cars that use the 3800.

I was reading about a guy who installed a supercharger on his 3.4 and now the car outran the older SS impala. I'll find the place and let you know more. IF I am not mistaken he was running in the low 13's and high 12 second range.

I don't understand how a 3.4 that probably runs 17's in the quarter mile, could put a piece of metal in the intake arm and run low 15's maybe high 14's. you couldn't even do that with a 50 shot of nos. it's 100% impossible

A new Impala SS can outrun the old SS, if both are bare-bone stock anyways.

Now, lets look at the numbers.

1996 Impala SS, 260 HP / 330 TQ, 4036lbs

Power to weight being .0644

2005 Impala 3.4L, 180 HP / 205 TQ, 3389lbs

Power to eight being .0531

Now, even if you added 35 HP, Power to weight would be .06344
But its pretty unlikely your going to add that much HP to an Impala 3.4, even if you did, The SS still out Torque's, which is what counts in acceleration.
