1994 Cutlass Supreme won't idle
schaas 07-07-2005, 12:20 PM The engine starts but dies if I don't keep my foot on the gas. As soon as I put it in gear it dies. Any clues to the problem? jondaboll 07-11-2005, 06:58 PM I think we would need some more information! Like engine miles, run rough, etc etc,, Just a few details and how it lesd up to the point to where it is now! Mine is a 88 cutlass 2.8 160000K it had same thing with stalling. Ran very rough at start, Took car to Auto Zone and theygot the trouble codes. All pointed to O2 sensor and map, maf. I replaced the plugs. O2 sensor, TPS, Idle air controller, PCV Cleaned the throttle body very good and also cleaned the EGR Took it off and got the passages clean. Maf i cleaned with electronic spray. Hey, This car runs like a sewing machine. I had black smoke and crap dripping out the tail pipe, It was ugly. Check your EGR valve and put your fingersbehind it and push the diaphram and see if it moves freely. If not , than try cleaning it. If it not moving that is probably most of the problem. ( I guess it would depend on your motor. I dont know what you have. schaas 07-12-2005, 10:26 AM It's a 3.1 L with 150,000 miles. Driving along the other day it started to run rough, then died. It will start and seems to run fine in park if I keep the RPMs above 1,000. It dies if you let it idle or put it in gear. I checked the EGR and it seems OK. I tried to jumper the OBD to get codes with the Service engine light, but no luck. I can't get any info. if this thing is OBD I or II. I read somewhere that it may not be either, but might be ALDL (oddball), which you can't get codes with a jumper. AutomotiveHelper.com, Copyright ©2013
