Something happened to me. On 99+ modles all you have to do is leave the key in and turn it to the ON postion for about 10 min. Then the light will shut off and you can start your car. Problem with mine is that it keeps happeneing and i am too cheap to take it to the dealer.

I fixed my passlock by cleaning the ignition switch. Purchased some electronics spray cleaner and found a piece of very thin cloth, wrapped cloth around key, soaked it with the cleaner and gently worked all in to ignition switch. Let it sit a couple of minutes and then remove key and cloth from ignition. Cloth came out black. No more passlock problems. Before cleaning ignition, passlock system would stop me from starting car sometimes twice in a row. It gets real frustrating having to wait 2 ten-minute cycles to start car. By the way, you do not have to turn key on while waiting the ten minutes on my car; it’s a 99 model. I did however, always leave key in ignition while waiting.

Couple things to note: Cloth must be very thin and use care not to leave pieces of cloth in ignition for obvious reasons. I found a delicate pillowcase worked for me, just cut a small piece out of it and wrap tightly around key then soak with electronics cleaner. You may not be able to get cloth in ignition very far but I noticed most of the black that came out was barely inside keyhole. Most cleaner of this type is flammable and should be allowed to dry some before trying to start car.

I know this fix sounds too simple but it worked. Has been months since last security light episode. Not sure why my ignition had so much black stuff in it, maybe it’s lubricated when new and this attracts dust and dirt. Security light problems did end immediately after cleaning.

If others try this with success please post the info. I sincerely believe this will fix most of the security light problems for everyone but would like feedback. I know many have gone to the dealers for repair and they installed a new ignition to fix at a cost of $500.
