i dont have the hard facts about who made the engine, but you can guarantee that saab didnt make it. for one, gm wont let them spend (er...waste) money on engineering anything until they can be profitable. the only new things saab gets are hand me downs. usually from vauxhall, opel, saturn etc...for example; look at the 95 v-6 900, 9-5 v-6, the new sport sedan (2.0 from saturn, chevy).

i just asked the former saab rocky mountain rep. and he is guessing it is from opel. there is a small chance that it is from saturn, but he says it is unlikely. he also noted that the specific information like that usually isnt released until the car is actually on the road. there are too many managers that have their fingers on the project and until the big guy stamps his approval, nobody knows for sure.

The new 2.8 liter turbocharged V-6 started out in the new Cadillac CTS's base 2.8 liter 210 hp DOHC V-6.

that doesnt mean cadillac made it though. it (the enginie) has been around europe for a while now.

saab's version is different than the cadillac's version.

The engine is a "global engine" designed by the same group that did the L850 (Ectotec); GM Powertrain in USA/Germany/Sweden. The engine is manufactured in Holdens factories in Port Melbourne.

It's turbocharged by Saab Powertrain, which is a part of GM Powertrain.
