Birth of Godzilla:Skyline R32 GTRsubyfanatic 07-03-2005, 10:32 PM A Little History (courtesy of Google, of course) In 1989 Nissan debuted the GT-R to compete in the JTC (Japan Touring Car) Group A racing series. The GT-R was undefeated in its first season. 4 years running the GT-R won the championship in the JTC Group A series, a record of 29 wins out of 29 races. Because of its dominance, the Skyline was given its own series in 1994 the JGTC, (Japan GT car) series. In 1991 Nurburgring 24 hour endurance race (First participation) Skyline GT-R won the Group N class. At the Spa Francorchamps 24 hour endurance race 1991 the GT-R won overall beating Group A, and Group N1 cars. From 1991 -1997 the Skyline was undefeated in N1 endurance racing in Japan, winning 50 times. Hence earning the nickname Godzilla. Unfortunate for some of us, Nissan never produced a Skyline GT-R to comply with the United States standards. So here is my render of the undeniable King of all Monsters, the Skyline GTR. The first of a series of Skylines I'm currently drawing. Hope you like it. http://www.directimagehost.com/is.php?i=104883&img=00_R32GTR.jpg GirlBear 07-03-2005, 11:21 PM Holy Shit!!! Suby you amaze me more and more with every post. damn you got skillz!! knightvision 07-04-2005, 08:08 AM The rendering looks good! The Skyline is a cool car. I think it's mostly that popular because of the street racing scene, although it had many race success like you said. I'm disappointed that the new Skyline Concept does not have any design components of the old versions. The new design looks "not bad" but it does not look like a skyline. I hope one of the Skylines you draw is the cyan-blue Falken GT-R 34 from the last years 24 Stundenrennen am Nürburgring. [S]kY|in3 07-04-2005, 10:26 AM CooL R32~ very nice reflectionss Nissan most popular, Skyline GTR..but felt very sad tat nissan stops e manufacturing R34 already.. and came out some crap skylines.. which dont look sporty and firece.. nicecar 07-04-2005, 11:32 AM I love skylines and that gets full marks on the SKYLINE-O-METER!!! grantrl78 07-06-2005, 06:32 PM That is some great marker work! I love their shape! Conservative and still angry looking. I remember seeing a topgear from the 90's when it was like one the fastest production cars period. Smoking ferrari 355's and other cars that cost twice as much. Damn I wish I could afford one! proudfordowner 07-08-2005, 10:43 AM That is some great marker work! I love their shape! Damn I wish I could afford one! i totally agree thats awsome :grinyes: bonzelite 07-09-2005, 03:56 AM fix the diagonal you have made with the front glass where it meets the roofline. it slants down to the left TOO much; it does not match the perspective of the front fascia. otherwise, i LOVE it. you have a wonderful style and look. you have done proud to my favorite tuner car: BNR32. that will be the next car i buy. adding to my collection. ImolaEK 07-14-2005, 09:10 PM Very Nice drawing;) 2.2 Straight six 07-15-2005, 04:22 PM damn nice drawing, and also for the history, the R32 GTR was the first production car to lap the nurburgring nordshleife in under 8 minutes. bonzelite 07-15-2005, 04:31 PM yes. that is correct. the R32GT-R was specifically created to win Group A racing, so they homologated them for street use in order to comply with sanctioning rules. the car won so many races season after season, that they actually phased out Group A and created JGTC. then, two consecutive seasons into JGTC, the GT-R won again and again. so blame it on the R32 GT-R. i look forward to owning one. asaenz 07-15-2005, 07:37 PM Daa--ang Subyfanatic that looks fantastic. Very sweet job on the markers. Is that all markers? Al subyfanatic 07-15-2005, 07:42 PM Yes, All marker. Cheap ones, too. It's a box of 100 that I found at my local AC Moore craft store. I originally intended for my kids to use them but they couldn't agree to disagree and kept fighting over the same colors, so they stopped using them. That's when I took them for my self and they work pretty good. It gives my Prismas and Designs a break, plus these don't bleed that much. -Jacko- 07-16-2005, 05:38 AM A+, 10/10, 100% Coooool!!! asaenz 07-16-2005, 08:10 AM Yes, All marker. Cheap ones, too. It's a box of 100 that I found at my local AC Moore craft store. Are talking about skinny cheapos or fat cheapos? What size is the car on paper? Thx subyfanatic 07-17-2005, 10:15 PM Those are skinny cheapo markers, paper is 9 x 12 ajrichar 07-20-2005, 07:56 AM damn nice drawing, and also for the history, the R32 GTR was the first production car to lap the nurburgring nordshleife in under 8 minutes. That's not actually correct. It was the R33 GT-R that lapped the old Nordschleife in under 8 minutes (although rumour has it that the car wasn't running completely 'stock'...) The R32 lapped the track somewhere around the 8:20-30sec mark. Which, for a car conceived and designed in the 1980's (it was released in 1989 remember) was an astonishing feat. Plenty of modern sportcars can't match the times of the R32 GT-R.... bonzelite 07-20-2005, 02:57 PM i always get the Nurburgring times confused, as there are many. here is everything you'd ever care to know about the 'Ring laptimes insofar as the GT-R and other contemporary cars: http://forums.gtrforums.com/showthread.php?t=150&page=1&pp=10 and, yes, that 1995 lap time for the R33 was sort of not official, as that car was indeed modified. that is mentioned in the thread i linked you to, on my post #10 of the thread. :) ajrichar 07-20-2005, 07:28 PM i always get the Nurburgring times confused, as there are many. here is everything you'd ever care to know about the 'Ring laptimes insofar as the GT-R and other contemporary cars: http://forums.gtrforums.com/showthread.php?t=150&page=1&pp=10 and, yes, that 1995 lap time for the R33 was sort of not official, as that car was indeed modified. that is mentioned in the thread i linked you to, on my post #10 of the thread. :) Yeah, there is so much myth surrounding both the Nordschleife and the GT-R in its various incarnations, that it is important to try to get it right wherever possible. Although as any search on the net proves, that is often very hard to do. It seems with such an iconic car that the myth has overtaken fact. I think that the car's abilities are so profoundly amazing (certainly higher than one will ever need for the road) that there is simply no need to mythologise it beyond what it can already do. On the GT-R forum link you posted (which I am deeply grateful for), 'Moleman' states: "There is a vid available where an apparently stock R32 does it in 8:22ish.....but who knows." Do you know anything about where or how I may get access to this video? I try to get a copy of everything I can GT-R related - particularly if it involves 'stock' cars. Early Best Motoring videos are best for this. bonzelite 07-20-2005, 07:35 PM ajr, maybe register on that GT-R forum, and drop Moleman a PM. he is very friendly and helpful. he'd probably offer you a copy of it. at least he'd guide you to it. ;) stuffbyalex 07-20-2005, 07:40 PM *kicks himself for having not commented on this thread yet* Sersiously man, nice work! the headlights look great and those rims must have been tough. I have now registered. I have an absolute passion for the GT-R series, but abhor the whole 'Fast and the Furious' mentality. Therefore I stay away from most Skyline discussions. I have a reasonable collection of GT-R memorabilia and diecast models, as well as personal experiences in an R32 GT-R (I scared the crap out of myself in one...) so I may have something to contribute to the forum. Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread away from the drawing theme. I too would like to do my own GT-R sketch, but make mine a standard car. Sadly, I don't have the ability of people here... :( I am waiting on a friend to send me a copy of a sketch of the Winfield GT-R Group A touring car he has done, so that is as close as I can get to contributing to this thread. bonzelite 07-20-2005, 08:09 PM nice. is your online name the same? if so, i'll see you on there. that forum is not immature at all. you'll like it. ajrichar 07-20-2005, 08:35 PM nice. is your online name the same? if so, i'll see you on there. that forum is not immature at all. you'll like it.
