Questions about buying a C4 Vette.Rampart Crawler 07-03-2005, 09:57 PM Well, I'll give the whole background to why I want one. See, I AM only 16, but please don't judge. Like my friends, I drive responsibly. Mostly because there is a track locally that friends race on, and it is more fun than speeding. We also wouldn't want to hurt anyone or get a ticket. This is just a question for the future. I know some of you might hate hondas, but I already have a few friends who are responsibly working on their daddies' hand-me-down civic's and they are getting fairly quick. One, for example, is a swapped b18c1 in a 5th gen civic. Not exactly fast, even the slowest years of the vette could take it, but he is getting there. Simple junk yard setup. It runs strong. He drives like a grandma on the road, and can cut high 14's in the 1/4 mile w/ bad tires/clutch. My point is, I have always been the "car guy" out of my friends, wanting a quick car not to speed around the city and acting stupid, but to have a good time and the ocasional track day. My friends are slowly building up their cars and I have a stock baseline civic. I like it now and don't even race it on the track. My best run was a 17.8 1/4 mile. Just a timer at the track. No 60 ft, mph, ect. I just feel like I will always have a dirt slow economical car my whole life. My carrer path has been chosen, and when I get out of school in two years, i can afford to get a 'new' car. There are C4 vettes for $9k-$12 at the local dealer. The dealer is very respectable. I am wondering, would a C4 vette be fairly cheap and easy to maintain as a daily driver, in the city? What would insurance be like for a 19 year old? The C4 happens to be my favorite of the vettes. Also, if you must know, I have skipped my idea of college, and would use a small portion of my savings for this car. I can start at UPS for $1,000 a week to start, before taxes. Very good pay, but it is hard labor. My father can get me in. I am loving the $52k a year, though. This is a while from now, I know. I just like to be prepared. I origionally wated to go into law enforcement, but the way cops are being treated and the stuff the go through ever day made me change my mind. UPS is good pay and you are in the Union. Be as honest as you want. I have seen people on the honda board saying they are 16 and looking into S2000's that have goten flamed. I just want to plan ahead for when I am 19 or 20 and have been out of HS for a bit. Just know that I am aware that I cannot afford one now, but I think it would be manageable once I get a full time job, and dedicate some of the money to the car. Sorry if my grammar is off, I don't get a lot of time to post on the forums, and it's pretty late at night. DannyC4 07-04-2005, 12:36 AM Do it :D Rampart Crawler 07-04-2005, 05:24 PM Do it :D I tried doing research on the car. Most of the stuff that comes up is performance parts and car comparisons. No doubt, it's a good looking, fast car, but I'd just like to know what it is like for day to day driving. For instance, my neighbor bought one of the new Hummer H2s for the image(my father was so jealous). He could afford the sticker price, but the insurance raised. He mentioned that to me. Then he said the gas prices were killing him. The he eventually sold it and bought one of the GMC Sierras with the pro sport package. Gas mileage is a bit better, so is insurance, and the maintenance. On top of that, it accelerates, handles, brakes, and parks a bit easier. I don't want to get a C4 for a good deal and get killed on $500 for a quart of oil or that it takes $3000 performance tires. I know it is different than the average car, but is it still manageable. I just think a vette would be different than the average "next step up" performance car most people get. Like a LS1 camaro or WRX. Not to mention I have always loved the history behind it, and the 'bang for the buck' factor it was always said to have. audible 07-05-2005, 02:41 PM Stay in school. UPS is a good company but that hard work will suck after you've been doing for years. My best buddy just graduated for our local Sherrif's academy and is loving it. Sure there are risks, but... I have a 1996 C-4 Collector Edition and paid $16,000. I bought it for my wife for her birthday. We both really like it. Now, would I drive it daily? = NO. Good for weekend trips and hauling ass to the local Starbucks. :naughty: Just my :2cents: Audible :smokin: Rampart Crawler 07-05-2005, 06:29 PM Stay in school. I am going to take two classes in law on the side of my HS to get an idea. I am also enrolled in a 3 year information technology course, which I will graduate same year as HS. If that would be good enough to get me into a nice paying desk job, I'd be happy. audible 07-06-2005, 12:08 PM It's your world man, I'm just looking in.
