I have a '87 toyota 4x4. When I hit high rpm I hear a congested noise and sometimes lose power, but when I let off the gas I feel the power come back. Any Ideas? Could it be the clutch?

how high of RPM are you talking.? may just be vaulve float.

I'm not exactly sure, my pickup doesn't have a tach. but if I had to guess, probably around 3-4000 rpm

Might be your fuel filter needs replacing.

No check engine light, I replaced the filter maybe six months ago, could it be the pump? Or can the filter go bad that quickly?

sure could be the pump. throw a fuel presure guage on there to test it. there kind of pricey and a bear to change so you want to be sure its bad before you replace it.

Yeah I just replaced the pump in my 92 honda accord, I don't ever want to do that again. I'll check it out, thanks for the info.
