Engine will not kick down

1987 base model 2.5 U-type automatic. Have had problems with stalling when motor is at operating temperature when coming to a stop. Engine will not compensate and kick down to bring RPMs up when slowing to a stop. Have replaced TPS, Idle Control Valve, and Map Sensor. Motor will continually decrease speed when slowing to a stop until motor stalls. Outside input says it's the Torque Converter Lockout and advice says to disconnect. Short term solution. HELP

The easiest way to correct this problem is to disconnect the TCC solenoid by unplugging the plug on top of the transmission housing. To replace the solenoid you need to remove the side panel, can be accessed from the driver's wheel well. The solenoid is only held in by a couple of screws. Replace with a new one and reconnect the solenoid connector at the top. The solenoid is about $50 at a dealer. I don't know if you can get it anywhere else.

GTP Dad is right, your problem is with the torque converter clutch not unlocking. It's like a manual trans coming to a stop without pressing in the clutch, the car will stall. Same thing is going on with your car...GTP Dad gave you good info, I'd go with unplugging it first and if that worked replace the solenoid if you feel like fixing it right.
