Tahoe problems

Hi All,

I'm a novice when it comes to trucks, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I've a couple of problems with my 2000 Tahoe (new body style, 5.3 L V8).

1) after the truck runs for 20-30 minutes, it makes a noise, comes from underneath, can't pinpoint. Also, the fuel gauge in the dash board, goes wild, swinging from side to side, somes times it shows full fuel, sometimes, low fuel, sometimes stays in the middle; right after I put gas, the indicator always goes to the left, showing low fuel, and the dash board message also comes up showing "Low Fuel"; I took to a mechanic, just by listening to the noise he said that it's a faulty fuel pump and it should be replaced, costs $500; is he on the right track ?

2) during warmer weather (late spring, Summer, early Fall), after I start the truck, the air bag indicator comes on and it stays on; but it doesn't happen in Winter; the mechanic checked it with a little handheld device and said that the computer code shows a problem with the passenger side airbag; he says he needs to open that side and check. again, is he on right track in resolving the issue. Any quick fixes for this.

Thank you very much for your help.

Your gauge problem is the sending unit on the fuel pump. My does it and and often as the pumps go out on these i'm just waiting till the pump it self goes out.

It's a common problem.
