gas mileage on 04 Alero 2.2duncanzj 07-01-2005, 01:17 PM Hey everyone,i just had a quick question for ya, i have an 04 Alero with the 2.2 in it and was wondering what eveyone else with that engine was getting as far as gas mileage goes. I am getting about 300 miles to the gallon, and was wondering if that was bad or not. It has 20,000 miles on it and am getting ready to put a K&N air filter in it as soon as it hits 25,000. Hopefully that little change will help out my gas mileage a little bit, thanks. cficare68 07-02-2005, 04:43 PM If you are getting 300 miles to the gallon then i wouldn't be complaning, although you probably mean to the tank. I have a 99 with a 2.4 and it is getting about 250-260 miles to the tank. That's not really bad gas mileage duncanzj 07-02-2005, 08:20 PM Oh all right thanks for the feedback, i just wasnt sure if that was good for this car or not. I have been a Jeep kind of guy for the better part of my life and have never owned a GM before so i was just curious, thanks again. Rob_M 07-07-2005, 12:20 PM i have an 04 Alero with the 2.2. the worst mileage i have seen is 26 mpg in a combination of 2/3 highway driving and 1/3 city driving while intentionally using a heavy foot on the accelerator to see how low the mileage would go. the best mileage i've calculated on a highway trip at speeds of around 70 mph is a little over 34 mpg while running the AC. since i've had my alero i've averaged almost exactly 30 mpg. when averaging 30 mpg my alero's low fuel indicator comes on around at around 340-350 miles. so on some highway trips it is possible to go more than 400 miles on one tank without risking running out of fuel (e.g., 34 mpg x 14 gal = 476 miles; you would still have at least 2 gals of fuel left.) Your final comment would be false because the fuel tanks in the Aleros are only 14.1 gallons...so on your calculations, after going 476 miles, you'd only have 1/10 of a gallon left. Jeremy Jeremy, Maybe the way I worded it was confusing. What I was attempting to say is that after driving 400 miles @ 34 mpg I would still theoretically be able to drive another 76 miles or so before running entirely out of fuel. So after driving the 400 miles there would be at least 2 gal of fuel left in the tank. JTrujillo86 07-08-2005, 11:48 AM Wow...I'm an idiot... Sorry. Jeremy nqc2k 08-29-2005, 06:47 PM I have a 99` 3.4 4door, and I get 24-26mpg. The most miles I have gone on a tank was 300ish, and I put in 11.5 galons of gas. Does this mean I could have gone another 2.6 gallons worth (60+ miles)? My idiot light comes on when I have 260-280ish miles, does anyone know when this light comes on, how many gallons are left in the tank? Also, how can we improve gas mileage? Change plugs/wires, cold air intake, differnet type of oil, new muffler, air filter? Any of this, or any thing going to help with gas milege? If anything helps, i'll buy it tomrrrow :) BNaylor 08-29-2005, 08:53 PM I have a 99` 3.4 4door, and I get 24-26mpg. The most miles I have gone on a tank was 300ish, and I put in 11.5 galons of gas. The major factor is how we drive our cars. nqc2k 08-29-2005, 09:02 PM bnaylor, I have a 3.4, and 90k miles. Is it *financially* worth getting those items you mentioned replaced? Will I see a big enough difference to justify the inital cost of those items? Also, I do an oil change every 3k miles with the cheapest walmart oil i can find and a cheap fram filter. I spend $7 or so total on the oil/filter. Would a better filter and oil help gas mileage? (would spending more on oil/filter save me more on gas to make it worth it) Thanks! What are you currently getting for mileage. In city and highway? If the plugs and wires have never been replaced you're due around 100K miles anyways. Even if you only pick up 1 to 2 mpg improvement, it's better than nothing. Any expenditure takes a while to re-coup. IMO the basic tune up items are for preventive maintenance and possibly heading off a big repair bill later on down the road. Thats where the cost will be justified. But you never know because fuel costs are rising. I don't think that going to a different brand oil filter or oil will help your mileage that much since you change it out every 3K miles. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
