I always believed that if dodge would make the srt4 rwd, it would be a 13 second car flat out, even a high 12's car. STOCK. Now, you put on some things, and you'd easily be in the 11's...

Weight Transfer....do you think the car would have enough front to back transfer to make the rear tires hook..? Or would it be a traction mess..? I used to talk to alot of guys with srt4's and i would always ask them about "what if's" in the rwd situation, and all of them said it's better that it is fwd cause there is no weight back there.

Either way, i would love to see this happen.

Imagine a 4wd srt4...i smell an evo and wrx killer....

I think it would be cool but I don't think it would be any where near 12's. Alot of work was put into making that car effective as a front wheeler. It would likely only be marginally faster than it already is. The neon is definately a FWD platform and I don't really see any way to change that. It would end up heavier than the current model and wouldn't make as effective use of its power. If they somehow made it a RWD I think it would be a MOPAR guys dream come true to see RWD return at an affordable price but I don't think it would be any faster than high 13s low 14s like it is with FWD.

I really wish Dodge would release a lower to mid range coupe with (naturally) a Hemi option or R/T setup. Something that would lower the boom on both GM and Ford, something the Charger should have been instead of a Four door sedan. Dodge has got balls, I'll admit that, we'll just have to give those guys a little time with dropping a concept onto the production line.

I agree

but i must say about the fact it has no rear weigh it is a freaking FF add a drive shaft and rear diff it'll gain some heft back there and i think it would be damn neato!

now only if it wasn't sooo ugly

Lol, yeah it is on the ugly side. I remember this past summer, i was driving down sunrise hwy and i seen all new dodges at a dealership. I pulled over, and fell in love with the hemi magnum (love the wheels) and the srt4.

Ok, now....how about AWD...? Dont you think ths would be a strong competitor with the evo/sti's..?

I agree with you ACE it would be a lot more fun with RWD, like you said it would be more balanced. I don't think it would be any faster though. Same with AWD, the NEON wasn't made for AWD and it really would be difficult to fit it in there. To me it would be like the 99+ mustang cobras IRS. It became such a heavy retrofit that it only really gained a more balanced weight ratio and smoother ride. The improved handling was really due to the weight not the IRS itself.

Personally I wouldn't change much with the SRT-4. I think it did just what Dodge wanted to do. It cut into the compact sport circle by offering something comparable at a low price. You really can't argue with the results, as much as I hate to admit it would run with me or beat me. I agree the Neon isn't the best looking car no matter how much you dress it up but the fact that they didn't have to change the frame or anything makes it cheaper to produce and cheaper for its fans to purchase.

moved to non specific.

I agree with black Gt. The SRT4 attainned its intended target perfectly, low price FWD sport compact "tuner" market. Any changes and it woul've it missed it. A neon is really not the platform to after high power RWD cars (eg. camaro, cobra) for those you need a coupe boby and probably a V8. This is what the market demands

BTW rumor goes that the next SRT4 will be based on the new redesigned evoX so its demographic target will change.

What I would like to see from dodge now:
1. another low priced FWD turbo car to replace the srt4
2.another mid priced to compete with the evo/sti crowd
3. then a bit higher on the price scale a hemi (performance tuned) RWD coupe to compete with the mustang cobra (maybe bring back the cuda name too with it).

I could see a redesigned evo being the next SRT4. It would be the true new DSM. I agree a new HEMI cuda coupe would be awesome.

Nuetrino: in reference to your number 3 on your list. What about the SRT8? 425hp hemi, that would hang with a stock 03-04 cobra.

I don't think the thing would hook worth a damn as rwd. Those tires are very skinny. I'd like to see the Neon AWD if they continued to make it 5 years down the road.

Well the SRT8 is a luxury/sport sedan with lots of power, more along the lines of GTO, CTSV, M5 etc. So i would not consider it cobra competition.

The cuda I'm thinking of is a lighter, cheaper, faster coupe.

the srt-4 as and AWD would be fun but if it wants to hang with evos and sti's definitly needs more horsepower becuse the horsepower it come with now would tie with a regular wrx

If they made an AWD SRT-4 I'd want to see more power, It's plenty light of a car but still, it's going to gain a fair amount of weight, having to have a rear axle, driveshaft and t-case, or possibly IRS. Off topic does anybody have an info on the rally car version of the SRT-4?? I'd personally want them to mimic the AWD in the Evo, front biased drivetrain but can go 50/50.

AND DEVIL IT'S DAMN NICE TO SEE YA, WHERE'VE YOU BEEN? :screwy:

IMO a new cuda would be nice, but I don't think dodge is gonna' go for somthing like that besides I think they like where they're at; they've got the charger/magnum in the 40 grand range, the SRT-4 in the 20 grand range, and the viper in the ???80 grand???? range (don't quote me on that IDK how much they cost, that's just a ballpark), so that pretty much makes them competitve with most other companies on the market.
