1997 Jeep GC PLEASE HELP MEtwillie 06-30-2005, 03:06 PM Driving down the road, it quit running suddenly. Got it over to the side of the road and fuel guage went off along with alternator guage but directionals, lights, and radio were still operating. Shop says it might be the computer gone bad, but they aren't sure. Anybody out there know what might be the problem? I'm looking at a big bill here and I need it fixed right. PLEASE HELP. THANKS. Twillie dksob81 06-30-2005, 05:04 PM Yea I woudl agree with the shop, seems to be a bad computer. g1smith 07-19-2005, 03:06 PM Did your solve this problem? What size is your engine? Does your engine crank but no longer starts? This sounds like the classic Crank Position Sensor problem. Another post states that the Crank Position Sensor is a common problem with all Jeeps and that over time they become temperature sensitive. They self heat and can go into thermal runaway which causes both spark and fuel systems to go crazy, and yes, it can cause the computer to disable the ignition, fuel pump, fuel injectors and the Volt-Meter, Engine Temp Gauge and Fuel Gauge. Let the vehicle cool off for 20-30 minutes after which it runs like a champ until it heats up again. They're $50 from the dealership and $20 on the internet. Twillie As ask below did you try to restart the jeep, you could be looking at a smaller problem than the computer. check for fuel and spark at coil and at plugs. start with basics. It won't run without fuel and spark. dale jeepman600@sbcglobal.net :2cents: :smokin: ramairgto72 07-20-2005, 08:38 PM This seems to be a big problem, I had the same in my 93, and found it to be a bad batt connction, clean your batt posts and the cable connectors. It's a good idea to but the $2.50 unit that is made to clean the posts and cables, even if they look clean they may be not. Also note that even a loose cable will do the same thing. This happend to me so try this before replaceing your PCM. Good luck I hope this helps. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
