My A/C compressor is blown, I need a new one. Shop wants $550, but looking on the internet I found some Sanden and Delphi Compressors for my Tahoe (1996) in the $200 range.
What should I do?

When my compressor went out on my 96 Impala SS, I bought a new compressor from gmpartsdirect.com. You end up paying for shipping but it was still cheaper than any local parts store/dealer for a new compressor.
Most of the compressors in the $200 range are rebuilt and not new so check the warranty before buying one of those.
My system lost all of the pressure so I replaced compressor, accumulator and orifice tube myself and then paid a shop to pull a vacuum and then add freon. Total cost was around $400.
