!992 2.3l quad4 hunting and???

I need help with this one.......please someone......
I have a friend with a 92 2.3L quad four and at Idle (hot) the engine hunts and as soon as you move the car, the speedo goes to max and the odomiter starts cranking, has anyone heard of this before.

Sounds like a bad vss (vehicle speed sensor) its located on the back of the transmisison, should be a 3 wire connector going to it. It's pretty easy to change from under the car or above it, I did mine from under the car, had to change transmission seals anyway.

Well...........we changed the VSS and nothing changed.....so we changed the ECM, but used the old PROM and that seems to have solved the problem........Thanx for your input and have a good one.
