need of help please with 94 jgcl 5.2teemsta 06-28-2005, 03:02 PM I have a 94 jgcl with a 5.2 no check engine light go on but i am having a problem with the engine. It runs fine when i first start it in the morning. volt gauge shows close to 14 (had a new one put in and checked to make sure its good) but when it warms up to running temp or when i drive for a few miles it starts to shutter real bad. also put in a new fuel filter. also the volt gauge is affected by this some how because it drops to about 13 or a bit lower. was told it could be just about anything from a crack in dist cap to a bad plug. but would the truck run fine at first start up if it was one of those? and if i let it sit all day it will still shutter. can anyone give me a idea of what to look for with all these symptoms? any help would be greatly appreiciated that way i know what to look for from a mechanic. thanx Cam7 07-01-2005, 04:59 AM What speed does the problem happen? Could be trans related or could be a miss in the motor. Does it shudder when you are stopped with the trans in park or neutral or only when in gear. Does the check engine light come on? As far as the volt guage get a multimeter and put it on the 20 volt scale and read the battery voltage when the guage reading drops if possible. As long as it dosent fall below 13 it shouldnt be the problem. teemsta 07-01-2005, 12:59 PM doesn't feel like its in the tranny. it started a month or so ago with a light skip in the engine. mostly on highway at a steady gas (65mph) then it started to get worse. city driving it shutters like its not getting gas. i put in a new fuel filter and no check engine light comes on. i also put in a new alternator. it idles good but you can feel the shutter alittle bit every few seconds in engine in park at idle. now shuttering all the time but if you give it more gas it takes off. i checked the plugs and now 'im gonna take it to a garage to check wires and dist cap. cant do it myself due to back surgery recently. but if you think i am overlooking something pleas let me know. cant spend too much $ now on this truck due to out of work. thanks for the reply. donk23 07-01-2005, 07:29 PM doesn't feel like its in the tranny. it started a month or so ago with a light skip in the engine. mostly on highway at a steady gas (65mph) then it started to get worse. city driving it shutters like its not getting gas. i put in a new fuel filter and no check engine light comes on. i also put in a new alternator. it idles good but you can feel the shutter alittle bit every few seconds in engine in park at idle. now shuttering all the time but if you give it more gas it takes off. i checked the plugs and now 'im gonna take it to a garage to check wires and dist cap. cant do it myself due to back surgery recently. but if you think i am overlooking something pleas let me know. cant spend too much $ now on this truck due to out of work. thanks for the reply. I have had the exact problem with my 93 JGC w/5.2 engine. I have had a lot of problems with the ignition coil on my vehicle. (Look at my post About coils from yesterday.) I changed distributor cap, rotor, wires and plugs. Then I changed the distributor and camshaft position sensor. The bump stopped for about a month. Thought I had it but it started again and got real bad I changed the coil again and it started working until I lost two coils in one afternoon. I have switched to a different brand of coil (Standard) and everything has been ok for about two weeks now. I had been using Borg Warner coils but I am beggining to think they do not have the correct resistence to them. Still investigating all this. I would try a new coil and see if that works. It is not to hard to change. Also let me know where the coil is located on the 94 model. It is located next to the exhaust manifold on the passenger side of the engine on my 93. I have wondered if heat may also play a factor. donk23 07-01-2005, 07:38 PM I also wondered if the bump or miss you described happened in th 1900rpm to 2100 rpm and ran just fine otherwise? teemsta 07-01-2005, 08:55 PM it skips even when at idle and starting off slow to a normal speed (35mph) it skips. i'm gonna try a new coil. the coil on my 94 is in front of engine pass side near exhaust manifold. how much am i looking at to do this? $$ thanx oh by the way if this means anything..... i did the code test with the check engine light and it came up 12 27 27. 27 means fault in injector driver interface circuit. would that be the problem? is a "wells" brand coil anygood from autozone parts? donk23 07-01-2005, 10:01 PM The injector problem code is probably the cause of the miss in your jeep. I am not sure how to fix that problem but if you have not reset that code, I suggest that you do that before spending the $20-$30 for another coil. I do not have my book with me tonight to tell you how to reset, but your book should tell you how to do it. After resetting try running the jeep and see if the codes come back. Let me know. teemsta 07-02-2005, 09:56 AM wich book are you talking about? owners manual or haynes repair book? donk23 07-03-2005, 06:09 AM Sorry, been out of the loop for a while. Your Haynes manual will tell you how to reset the codes from the front seat. Let me know if you can't figure it out and I will get you the info you need and get back as soon as I can. teemsta 07-03-2005, 09:12 AM cant find my book, when you able, can you let me know how? thanx vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
