99 JGC 4.7L hard starting probsdarrellheinrich 06-27-2005, 12:47 AM I'm new---and need some help. My 99 Grand Cherokee 4.7L 4x4 with 75,000 miles is getting harder and harder to start when cold (or after sitting a couple of hours). Turns over normal but takes 10 or more seconds and sometimes a 2nd or 3rd try before it will start. Once started it runs great. Just had major service done on it a few months ago. A porsche mechanic friend looked at it and suggested that fuel pressure must be bleeding off inbetween starts and maybe a fuel pressure regulator problem. I really don't want to drop this off at Jeep and have them start loading my car up with new fuel pumps, etc. Any suggestions to troubleshoot this a little further? Anyone else had this problem on the 99s? Thank you in advance. Darrell Heinrich Bob D. 06-27-2005, 10:32 AM A leaking fuel pump (Chrysler has a bulletin for this) or fuel injector could be the cause. Test the fuel pressure bleed down at the rail. Should stay above 25 psi for 5 min after shut down. Not sure how to single out an injector. darrellheinrich 06-28-2005, 03:31 PM Bob D.---Thank you and we will check that pressure at the rail. I'm not sure about the injectors but I'm going to go online and see if I can find out how to do that too. Appreciate your reply and input Bob!
