96 Grand AM ignition stuck

The ignition is stuck on my 96 Grand Am.I put the key in the ignition and it won't turn forward or back.I tried to turn the steeringwheel back and forth that didn't help.So what could be the problem?

Most possible is the ignition lock cylinder went west internally on you, one fast cheap try at a fix is to squirt some lube into the key-slot, and move key in and out [idea is to work the lube into and around the tumbler pins to free them up]

Could also be a shift linkage prob. that is binding the coumn, but that is a real long shot.
