After changing the IAC valve, is there something that has to be done..... I threw the old one away before comparing the pintle distance ....so i installed it and the idle is just off enough to be noticable...or is there a way to reset the idle???? Thank you and your forum here is the best......

I have heard that if you turn the key to the on, but dont start the car for 15 seconds then off for 15 then on for 15, keep doing this for about a minute, should reset the IAC

I just came across this topic in my Haynes manual last night. It states that before installing the IAC, the distance between the end of the pintle and the mounting flange must be less than 1 1/8" apart. It also said to turn the ignition on for 10 seconds, then off for 10 seconds and start the car. I have not tried this method, however, so I'm not positive it will work for you. By the way, my haynes refers to a 1999 and 2000 Grand Am and also for a Malibu, Alero...the reset method for the IAC might be different.
