my 01 gt......

I have a v6.... it has overheated a few times.......cleaned out radiator,changed hoses, but as it overheated it kicks into gear and slows down and makes a loud dieseling sound....checked oil and all is fine....can you please help me....I live in Palm springs.....it has been 119 degrees....but i dont see anyone else having this trouble.... it has 116,000 miles...
I have also had some idle problem....it runs between the one and two as I am driviving.....changed the maf sensor. and the IAC...somebody mentioned that I had to reset the computer by grounding the ALDL and run the engine up over the two thousand RPM for 1 minute....whats your opinion... to set the idle properly?????

Welcome to the forum. As for your overheating problem I have several questions: 1. Did you change the thermostat? If not that is where to start. 2. Are the fans working? If not find out why at 119 degrees the fans need to work to keep it from overheating. 3. Did you mix the coolant 50/50 with water and antifreeze? This is important to prevent overheating. 4. Did you get all the air out of the system? 5. Are you sure the water pump is working? You should be able to feel coolant moving in the hose when the thermostat is open.

I would start with a new thermostat and go from there. Even if you changed it recently it could be bad. If that doesn't help you may want to make sure the radiator is not blocked. Simply put your hand on the radiator when the car is hot. Should be hot to warm all the way to the bottom. If not there is a blockage somewhere. Good Luck!
