Interior dome/map lights constantly on

Has anyone seen this before? The interior map and dome lights all stay on when I'm driving. The dimmer switch has no affect, and the lights don't ever go off until the jeep is parked and turned off for about 10 minutes. I've checked the fuse and it's fine. I've also tried resetting it by pulling it out, nothing............

Anyone?

I'm desperate here.

I forgot to say this is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Does the VIC show any open doors or hatch?

Nothing is shown open. We've slammed all the doors multiple times - this doesn't do anything to reset it.

The weird thing is that if a door or something was open, or it thought one was, then the lights wouldn't go off when the Jeep is turned off. They do go off eventually after the jeep is turned off.

How's your battery and positive cable? I've heard of weird electrical issues with a partially corroded positive battery cable. (happened to me).

you more than likely have a bad door switch. Usually the driver's door switch too. You can disconnect the door switch by unscrewing the one screw and pulling it out. Disconnect it and see if the light goes out when you have it running. Do this on all the doors to see if it is a door switch. I had that problem and just swapped it out with a switch from the back door and left the one in the back disconnected. No problems since!

Disconnecting the battery and cleaning off the corrosion worked like a charm. Thanks fred.

Welcome - glad to help.

(Usually it IS the door switches, though) :)
