Ok here's the problem i'm having.I have a 99 Tahoe and When I go over bumps or down a bumpy road the 2HI-4HI etc button goes on and off, but if it's off and I push it back on it does come back on then it will start doing that again. Any clue on what this could be? Thanks

My feelings are it is probably just bad contacts or LED's in the switch itself. Mine went bad on me, as have many others. The switch itself would work but the indicator lights would flicker or not work at all. I just ordered another switch from www.gmpartsdirect.com for like $40 and it's a simple swap in/out...

Just looked up my reciept and then checked their web site again. Here is what I found...

GM PART # 15027104
CATEGORY: All
PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $59.74
OUR PRICE: $34.05
DESCRIPTION: SWITCH

You'll have to add about $8.00 ship/handleing on that too I'm sure. You may want to double check that part no. with your dealer's parts dept. I would think the 99's would be identical... Sometimes they will match the internet sales guys, it's worth a try...

If you can lightly solder, most likely, you can fix this. fixed mine in less than 20min.

Good luck

I am having the same problem with the 2HI switch. The manual says it should be on for normal driving. Mine turns off all of a sudden. Lately is has been more often. I press it and it turns on again, but only for a while, sometimes one day. Question: If the 2HI light turns off and none of the other lights are on, does it mean that the 4WD will engage? Any repsonse will be appreciated.

No, from what I saw with mine anyway. The switch would still function normally, just the indicator lights quit working. The proplem was if you shifted into FWD-auto for example, you might forget to turn it off.

I have heard of a lot of people just soldering the contacts on the circuit board like Harborview sugested. I looked at mine, but couldn't figure out what it needed there.

My 03' Tahoe button lights went out too. Only 2WD worked at that time. It was under waranty still. so the dealer swaped them out.

Maybe its like the wiper mother board problem everyones had, or is going to get. I had that on my 98' Burb.

Just find the mother board and look for the solder points for the harness piece. It's probably cold solderd too.

On my wiper I could see when I looked with glasses that they were broken, but still touched. Result is a wiper with a mind of it's own.

It's an easy fix with the solder gun.

I think most have figured it out. There's nothing wrong with the functionality of the switch itself, it's just the LEDs that come one and off.
Press on the bezel (for you Aggies out there, that means "the plastic frame around the swith housing") instead of pushing the switches themselves.
I took mine off and blew out all the connections with my compressor, it fixed for about 15mins, and wen't right back to what it was doing. The switches and lights arent in a very convienient place to be useful, and 4wd affects the feel of the vehicle, so I don't have a problem forgetting. Save the money. Live with it.
