What are some of the specifications on the car?

Is it a desent car?

And any helpful hints on putting a new engine in (its a 3.1 lit.)

I know this isnt your year, but it might help out a little bit with the spcifications....... http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/used/reviews/full/index.cfm/id/1999/
How are you pretty sure you sdnapped a connecting rod?
Hmmmm.... 3.1....... Putting a new engine in? get a second person to be with you to drop the engine in.. Thats a tedious process........ But hey, if you like a veichle enough, anythigns worth it.

I do have an experienced mechanic helping me with this. it may not even be a connecting rod but it knock's in like three diffrent spots. And i have a metal shavings in my oil pan, but the thing is they are like half the size of a grain of sand. Any chance that the metal shaving did any damage to the cylinders. If not then i would just rebuild the upper half of the engine.

when you tear your motor apart, check the piston rings, and there is a possibility that you may need to bore your clynders a little bit to make them even...... And does your car burn any oil?

It does not burn any oil and the oil pressure stays around 40 - 50
