I brought a 89 xr3i ford escort cab 2weeks ago, in good condition it had been standing for about 6months in dry conditons.
When I took it for a spin it started up ok and the engine was sweat.
there was a little bit of a jutter on the engine when I kept it a constant speed but nothing a good service would not sort out.
So i had the cam belt changed spark plunges new oil and filter everything was fine.
Then it popped a top hose it got hot but didint go in to the red on the temp gauge, when I turned of the road and slowed down it made a funny winding sound and then stopped, I tryed to start it again but failed
new hose put on they sprayed some easy start to get it going.
I drove away and then this winding sound started on the passenger foot well area 10min later it stopped and i couldnt start it again this has happened 3 times now please help someone
The fuel relay has also been replaced

Any idea why your radiator hose busted? Is the system blocked up?
Does the winding sound happen when idling or only while driving?
If possible, pop the hood and rev up the car manually at the throttle and try to isolate the source of the sound.
Check to make sure your air and fuel filters are good too.
Next time you have difficulty starting it, try jiggling your battery cables around a bit and see if it makes a difference... perhaps there is a loose or bad wire.

the hose was old and perished the battery is new and the terminals are sound
The noise happens when the car is ticking over and when you drive it your about ten mins it cuts out and you cant start it again it wants to start but dosent quiet make it after couple of goes the engine turns over and doesnt do anything
could this be somthing to do with the computor fuel system to the injections

well the electronic fuel pump is over there on the passenger side... perhaps that is where the sound is coming from.
You will have to get under the hood and get a better idea of where the sound is coming from.

i have an xr3i i was driveing and i flew up first second 3rd then the car made a nosie lost all power car cut out couldnt get no gears wats up plz helps just bought it need to no wether to ring the person i bought it off plz help i jacked it up on driveing wheel and when u turn the wheel it makes a sound in side the gear box like a grinding nosie al so bought new battery 35 quid and it went to start but failed only went to go the once the just spark plugs clicken wat shall i do the alternators not chargeing the battery as well i dont think be very apperciated if uu can help mowbray
