Question about expansion plugs 93 aerostarCvkitty76 06-19-2005, 12:08 AM Hi, first I know that this is a Taurus section but it gets alot more traffic than the Aerostar. I have a 93 Aerostar and one of the expansion(freeze) plugs is broken.(nice big hole in the middle) I haven't been able to remove it. Does anyone have any advice when it comes to these things. Also how can I locate a leak in the brake line . not sure if in the line or somewhere else. It is leaking all fluid in about a month. slow but still leaking. and may get worse. Any IDEAS?? Thanks for your help everyone. KimMG 06-19-2005, 01:32 AM The technique I have used to remove freeze plugs is hammer a screw driver or punch in the middle of the plug and pry out. Auto parts stores sell rubber replacement plugs that can be placed in the hole. They have a nut thats expands and locks them into place. The brake hydraulic system: Common places for leaks is at seals and connections. Start by removing wheels, checking wheel cylinders and calipers and follow the lines back to the master cylinder looking for leaks. Cvkitty76 06-21-2005, 09:46 PM Okay we tried the hole thing and the pry out and the screw driver. None of it is working the damn thing is like super clued, but we don't see any actual glue, there must be some kind of tool or other way to get these things out. any other suggestions???? KimMG 06-23-2005, 01:08 PM Does the expansion plug look like a cup or disk? Cvkitty76 06-28-2005, 12:45 AM brass cup way2old 06-28-2005, 11:18 AM See if you can drive one side in. Hit on the very edge of the plug next to the block. If you can, the other side will come to the outside and you can remove it with locking pliers. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
