Hi:

I was wondering if anyone knew why my 96' SL1 was leaking Antifreeze from within the cap. It is on correctly and tightly sealed. I filled it up to the filled/cold level mark.

Is this a thermostat or sensor issue?

Thanks in advance for your help.

it sounds like your cap can't hold pressure, if so, a new cap is all of 15 dollars. you can buy a cooling system tester or most shops should have one.

Thanks for the reply. I also was reading some of the threads, and I am confused about what type of Anti-Freeze to put in my car. Green or Pink? I was reading DexCool is good; but when I google DexCool, I see a bunch of lawsuits, and that it damages GM engines.

Any suggestions?

saturn changed from stardard coolant to DexCool mid-year 96, i have never be able to find the exact breakpoint. look at your cap, if it has a pink dot, use dexcool, if it has a green dot, use standard antifreeze.i know some people that swear by dexcool, and i know some that won't go near it(more of the latter).i don't have any hands on experince with the differences or the damage people claim Dexcool to do. in theory you should be able to use ether(but not both together) but some people have claimed of leaks after they convert. also if you don't use dexcool on newer GMs i beleave it may void the warrenty, i have friends that plan to change to standard coolant the moment they are out of warrenty. but i doubt you are still in warrenty.

I had to change my tank because I tought it was leaking from the cap but when I removed the tank from the fender and held it out while the car was warming up I was able to see that the fluid was leaking from a small hole caused by the corner of the tank rubbbing against the fender. I was able to find a used tank at a wreker for $10 and when I mounted it on the car I made sure that the tank did not touch the fender before tightening the mounting bolt. If the tank does not allow you any clearance you can always elongate the mounting holes with a file to give you a bit of clearance. Take a closer look at your tank you might have the same problem
