92 Grand Am 3.3 stalling after 5 minutes

My 92 Grand Am 3.3L is stalling after about 5 minutes of driving. After checking the fuel lines, I determined that after stalling, I have no spark. Using Haynes, I checked the input voltage to the ignition coil which is at 12.6V but still no spark. It appears to me that the coil is going bad.

Is it possible for the coil to just shut off, possibly when it gets warm, then work after a 10 minute rest?

The ECM is new (so I'm assuming that it's still good). I have no error codes (which is really throwning me into a loop).

When the engine does run, it's running very smooth. No hesitation or knocking.

Before I put another $100 for an ignition coil/distributer, I'm hoping to get some advice.

Thanks

I am having a similar issue. However, my problem is that the injectors stop firing.

Are the injectors firing? If you observe that injectors stop firing and you stop getting spark at the same time, then I would suspect that it is the crank sensor.

I am also getting codes 27 & 28.

I had some bad injectors, resistance was reading too low, so they were drawing too much current. I found that when I unplugged one of the bad ones, the car would start.

I don't know if you would experience the same thing with the coil packs - if one of them bad it shuts em all down.

but if you are not sure, rather than wasting money on a new set, you might want to try a used set first to see if the behavior changes.
