belts

need to replace belts on my 3.5 anyone done that ? go in fromthe top or bottom ? the ac belt broke ,and you need to remove serpintine belt not much room :confused:

They are actually not that bad to replace, You didn't say the year of your car so I can only go by what I know so this answer applies to 93-97 models.

Loosen the nut that holds on the Idler Pulleys just enough that the pully wobbles a little bit but do not remove the nut, on the underside of each idler there is a adjusting bolt (Easier to gain access to it from under the car with a socket and long extension), back that bolt off enough that the Serpentine Belt loosens to the point that you can remove it. You must also loosen and back off the Idler/Adjuster for the A/C V-Belt, since your replacing the A/C V-belt you might as well replace the Serpentine while you are at it that way both Belts are new. place the A/C V-belt in the pullies and tighten the idler adjuster until you get the proper deflection of the belt (1/2" deflection between the farthest 2 pulleys) then tighten down the Idler Pulley Nut to lock it in place, then do the same procedure for the Serpentine belt by tightening up it's Idler to proper deflection (same as above) and tighten the Idler Nut. Then after about a month check both belts deflection and tighten them if the deflection is greater than 1/2" between the farthest pulleys. It is a good idea to do this on a cold engine if possible as these engines do get very hot.
