Okay, I feel stupid. Where did they hide the PCV valve on this engine? It does have one, doesn't it??????????????????

the pcv valve is mounted into the plastic intake at the front of the engine. it has a round plastic cover that attaches to the intake and the pcv is below that. there will be a three wire map sensor mounted to the top of the cover.

Here is a picture of the Map sensor area:

The center of the picture is the 3 wire map sensor, the transmission below that. Are you saying the PCV valve is mounted on the plastic cover, on the opposite side of the map sensor? Is it visible in that picture?

no, no, no. :grinno:

that is the maf (mass air flow) sensor.

your pcv is under the map (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.

check this pdf file out, it shows pictures and how to change the pcv.

Thanks for the link. The picture is interesting, because it doesn't look like my engine. On the front end of my engine, the spark plug wires don't go over the top of the intake, but between the intake and the alternator. There is no sensor like that on it. I'm beginning to think that my 3800 doesn't have a PCV valve... (is that possible?)

Also, I don't think my 3800 has a MAP sensor. It has a MAF sensor, as you have said already, over on the other side of the engine.

Thoughts?

Of course your 3800 has a PVC valve...but you going to have to find it....

It is hidden on the plastic intake as you are facing the engine on your left hand side around the middle behind the alternator..it does not look like any other PVC valve it is a little cap that you have to twist off..be careful not to break it....it twist off unlock twist on lock...inside is the pvc valve use a needlenose pliers to remove it..becareful to note the placement of the o-ring..

Okay, twist that thing off to get to it? I did notice that cap, but no MAP sensor as previously described.

Am I correct in assuming I don't have a MAP sensor?

Okay I twisted it off using a flathead screwdriver that fit snugly in the top of the cap, an there it was. It took about 1/4 turn to do it.

Thanks for the tip!

No MAP sensor on this beast!

the 3800 uses a MAF sensor, no MAP sensor.
