My 89 caravan wouldn't start the other day. I have a 2.5L automatic. A mechanic came by and I cranked the engine while he check for spark. No Spark. He jiggled or pulled wires and got spark and car started. He said problem was around wires going to the coil, and advised cleaning connections to the coil wires (the small wires going from the terminal connections on the coil into a wire bundle, not the big wire going to the distributor). Car died 2 minutes after he left but I disconnected the wires, cleaned the connections, reconnected the wires and it started right up. A couple days later car would crank but not start again. I first tried just jiggling the wires going to the coil and then cranking but there was no change. This time I just disconnected the two wires and then reconnected them and it started right up. The same thing happened a couple days later, car wouldn't crank, I disconnected just one of the wires and then reconnected it (didn't pull or jiggle the wires just gently disconnected and reconnected it), and it started up and ran fine.
I have done a few mechanical type repairs on cars but I am pretty clueless when it comes to electical or computer problems. Any ideas of what the problem is?
