Check Engine Light

I have a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu LS. I have had it for over 2 years now. I had someone to put a small machine under it and it says the the torque converter is stuck. I would like to know does anyone know of a better solution to solve this and what actually makes it stuck. I have heard that it is expensive. Also is it dangerous to keep driving? The light does go off at times, mostly if the car has sat for a while. Can someone help me??

Are you having drivability problems? If so, what are they. If not, maybe there was a code misread.

I think i can relate to what you are talking about with the engine light, and the sounds as well. I recently had my engine light come on, and it goes off at times, which sounds exactly like your problem. I had a friend look at the car which is a 1998 Malibu LS (ironic?) and he had said that a gasket could being going out, and for one reason or another he had said that it sounds like some sort of coolant is gettin into the engine somewhere, and once it sits, it can drain out, but it is not hazardous to drive. First thiongs first, check your tranny fluid level. It seems to me that a torque converter going bad is very drastic. I have not heard that ione here in this forum before.

I have the same problem with my 2000 malibu ls. The light goes on and off whenever. I need help too.
