Question bout engine computersSpeedClown 06-07-2005, 08:08 PM I have a 97 Saturn SC2. I got my transmission overhauled and the mechanic said I was having a problem with the engine computer. When I drive I can be going 30mph and all the sudden I am pushing on the gas and the speed doesn't pick up so I put it in nuetral and turn the car off while it is still rolling and back on. Then it works fine but later on it does the same thing. Is this something that the computer is causing? sierrap615 06-08-2005, 01:02 AM was this happening before or after the overhaul? auto or manual? if auto - try tapping the brake, then accelerating this may be the PCM(ether design or fault), a sensor, or a mechanical problem. honistly the posiblitys are endless right now, i *think* i know what the problem is, but i need more info frist. SpeedClown 06-09-2005, 01:39 PM It's an automatic and it starting doing that afterwards. It has never done it before. SpeedClown 06-09-2005, 06:32 PM It's an automatic and it starting doing that afterwards. It has never done it before. I was told that it was the PCM because the engine computer in my car was taken from another car and does not have my VIN # programmed in it. I don't know where the original computer is. Do I have to get a new computer. If so how do I without the original OE number. sierrap615 06-10-2005, 03:49 AM are you the orginal owner? was the work done at a saturn dealership or an independent shop? if you have the PCM handy please post the info printed on it. also check the VIN numbers on the block to the number on the dash - http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/14674/ what was the cause of the tranmission work? do the RPMs jump up when up set on the gas at 30+ or do they rise slowly? have you tryed tapping the brake then accerating? don't jump to replacing the PCM just yet. I am not the original owner. I got the car from the junkyard and fixed it up. It's a 1997 SC2 with about 72,000 miles on it. My car RPM would go up without me putting my foot on the gas and it would rise slowly when I put my foot on the gas. The saturn dealership ran the diagnosis on it and the reading said it had on 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. The saturn dealership is the one who said it was the valve body and installed it. They were also the one that said it would not start. sierrap615 06-11-2005, 04:18 PM The saturn dealership ran the diagnosis on it and the reading said it had on 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. SpeedClown 06-13-2005, 01:22 PM The saturn dealership replaced my PCM free of charge, but they said that they talked to the main people @ saturn and they told them that the reason why my car is acting the way it is is because the guy didn't overhaul the transmission, he took another transmission from another vehicle and put it into mine. My car is a 97 SC2 and he put in a 98 transmission and it may have not been a 98 SC2. So I need to get my old trans back or get a new one. sierrap615 06-13-2005, 01:58 PM that would explain it, thats why i wanted you to check the VINs, the way you say that if it shut down was then restarted the problem when away briefly lead me to thinking mismatch components, but i wasn't sure. if there is a problem with the transaxle the PCM will lock in a determend formula to set the shift points and then won't reset itself until the next drive cycle, when it starts all over again. assuming the info i have is correct, there was a gear ratio change for 98. each time the PCM resets it assumes the gear ratio is correct until it can time the gears to confirm the ratio, then it alters shifting as needed. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
