My Pontiac Grand am having problems like jerking after going like 50 or 60. i notice it, when i let go of the gas and resume it jerks but still goes. When i was on a red light the car stoped on me. Turned it back on and started. Its been doing this about 3 months ago. Ive changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter.

Does it do this when cold or only after the engine is warm and the torque convertor has locked up? and Once you restart the car does it run ok until you go above 50 mph again?

My check engine does not come on at all. I drive it again right now and doing fine until i was on a stop sign and turned off again. Started back on again. IT DOES STHIS ONLY WHEN WARM.

There are a couple of items I am thinking this might be. First, if it only does it after you have driven over 50 mph the torque convertor clutch solenoid may be going bad and not releasing causing the engine to stall. Once you turn the key off and restart it releases and allows you to drive again. Second, the ignition module may be losing ground or be going bad. Third the crank position sensor but I doubt that is the problem since the car only does this at a stop sign.

The next time you pull up to a stop sign put the car in neutral just before you stop. If the tcc solenoid is going bad then this should prevent it from causing engine stall. If that works then take it to a tranny shop and have them check it out for you.

Also forgot to say that, When i tun on my car the car gives out.It cranks. I have to pump a little on the gas pedal to start. Its funny it does that only when warm. It starts in the mornings when cold. I was just wondering if that has to do with my problem i posted on top. Also if not. Whats the problem?

I have a 99 Grand Am GT, and have a similiar issue. I'm driving on the highway going around 50-70, and I get hesistation from the engine, like something is getting blocked. I keep the foot on the gas, and I keep going. if I am on cruise, it will come off.

It's only for a split second...the funny part is that is only happens in the summer...started at the end of summer 2004, not one time in the winter did it happen. Any clues?

I have a similar problem...except it happens more when the engine is colder. I would back out of my driveway and there's a stop sign about 30 feet down the road...sometimes when I'm stopping the car would sputter like it's about to stall, but it'll either correct itself or putting it in neutral will fix it (and make the RPMs jump a bit like when you're about to stall in a standard but you get on the clutch just in time). Also the RPMs will occasionally drop by 150 or so when I'm idling after the engine is warmed up. No weird noises or anything, just a quick drop and the car shudders, then it goes back up.

Also I'm not sure if this is related or if it's just how the computer is (I'm no gearhead yet, certainly), but it seems VERY hard to get it to downshift, especially when going uphill. I usually either have to put it in third manually or let it coast to get under ~45mph, or floor it until it stops lugging and decides to downshift.
